Hello
I bought this Art Deco fork and spoon for serving salad
it is in French silver, 950/°°
The maker's mark is a caduceus with S and H or P or F
Thank you for your help in identifying the maker and the approx. date.
Best regards
François

Surely its not the absolut equal hallmark, but its a variation of it.Perhaps its the hallmark of his son etc,but I´m sure its sussmann. There are too many equals.First the I S,
then the Pinzette.(tool) Then the item on top of the tool.Nobody would start with the nearly equal Hallmark of Sussmann and then with his Initials.----May be I´m not right, but I´m very sure,I´m right.

Thank you ! I am not knowledgable enough to argue... I thought it had to be exactly the same mark, but as you say it might be a variation.

Fripou,
It is confusing with such similar symbols within the marks. As you noted, the mark on your set contains a caduceus, and for it to be right side up, the initials would be SI, not IS. The French are rigorous about the use of the symbol, so it is unlikely that this is Sussman, who is registered with a Tongs & Star for his symbol.
I checked the French mark database for all registered caduceus (caducée), but there is no IS or SI with this attribute. As it is, I believe the database only covers Paris or Ile de France in scope. Likely it is a maker from another part of France.

S I would mean the Maker would have made a fault.Normally both hallmarks have the same position, not one in the right manner and the other upside down.Since I saw french flatware ,I never saw such a hallmarking upside down to the minerve.------

Hello, how about Stéphane Prudhomme, 108 Rue Amelot, Paris. Used "S Caduceé P". Could be the one. Best wishes, Bahner

Bahner,
Brilliant, now that you mention it, it does appear to be a "P" when right side up.

Thank you for the answers.
If you look at the original post I made, I say it is S + caduceus + P or H or F
I could'nt find anything on Prudhomme ; do you have a picture of his hallmark ?
When was he active ?
Thanks in advance for your help

<hello, sorry for the 4 years later answer!!!
But yesterday I put on the forum an equal sort of 'couvert' and I got an answer that must be the same as for your object.
I also found with that: the house mark is French and used on exports since 1884. My mark was possible by Ernest Prudhomme, wich is a cadudeas between S and P (in my hallmark it is STE caduceus P) ST stand for 'société'
so Prudhomme, 108, rue Amelot Paris.
Both our objects must be from the same period they look so very from the same date and maker!!

Le successeur d'Ernest Prud'hmme 1891-1928, était Stéphanne Prudhomme, avec un caducée comme emblème.
