My comments
I was looking for references for the silversmith William Whitwell, the William Whitwell, partner in Barber & Whltwell who died in April 1823. There were 2 references for William Whitwell, but neither mentioned silversmithing.
Whitwell William, grocer, seedsman and spirit merchant, Pavement
Whitwell William, Micklegate
Among the jewellers/silversmiths listed William Astley and Christopher Watson are interesting names. There was a “William Astley” who had silver spoons hallmarked at York 1807..1812. In 1842 a concern “Watson & Bell” of 17 Low Ousegate had a Presentation trowel hallmarked at York.
A further 3 entries may be of interest.
Barber Jas. Black Swan Inn, (Clark's Hotel & posting house) Coney St.
My assumption is that this may be James Barber of the Barber & Whitwell partnership.
Cattle Robert, Coach proprietor, St.Helen's square & Grove House
Likely the former of partner of James Barber in the Cattle & Barber partnership.

North William Greaves, assay master, Feasegate
I do not know if this was “assay master” at the York silver guild
I do not know if this was the William North who was part of the 1825 onwards partnership of James Barber, George Cattle II & William North
These seem likely but is there confirmation please?
