I think I have seen these marks on this forum before, but for the life of me I can't remember what their attribution was (York?).

Edinburgh, with Edward Penman's mark as assay master and date letter V for 1725. I'm not sure what the maker's mark is.

Hello, the maker's mark "blown up" looks much like the mark that "Phil" has listed as "James Mitchelson I", and would be in the correct time period. The cartouche has that same "fat apple" like look.

::::: I think it was my cup with a 1740 Date Mark and an (IM) that I thought was for John Main but an archivist followed up with more information:

:::::: "Please see Silver Studies, 2006, the article by Rodney Dietert: the JM in a shaped punch has been definitively re-ascribed to James Mitchelson (active 1706-1757). According to our records, John Main emigrated to Cadiz in August 1734, so the piece cannot be by him." :::::::

:::::: I assume this article is definitive, wish I had this article so I could compare the hallmarks of James Michelson vs. John Main. ::::::

Thank you, I had somehow convinced myself that it wasn't an Edinburgh town mark, must get my eyes checked.
