I was wondering if this would be a Danish cake server? Or is it from some other country? Attached marks on the stem, no other marks.

Mind my asking, but what indicates silver in the marks ???

It looks very much silver and it is from the 18th century. It has the engraving PC/MC with the year 1786 (should have showed this also).

Well Juke, "looks like...!?" Anyway, you are a lucky man Juke because I stumbled into the maker by a coincident doing another research.

Your sever is indeed silver, but is isn't Danish. It is Norwegian and made by Tor(j)(e) Christensen Landaas born in 11.10.1749 in Vigmostad. It is a small village in the county of Agder in southern Norway. Tor is also known by the name of Torje Kristensen. He moved to the town of Kristiansand (also in Agder) 1779 and became master there 21.12.1778. There he founded a guild with four other masters. In April 1795 to April 1798 he was the guild's alderman. He died 5.2.1806 but his wife continued with the business until 1811 when their son Tobias Landaas 1806-1819 took over the family business in Kristiansand. After Tobias' death his sons Torje and Marcus continued, but that is another story. Sorry that I had some doubts but Norwegian marks are sometimes very incomplete like in this case. Actually nothing indicates silver.

Sorry ...just noticed a contradiction between 1778 and 1779 in my source (and text). I states that he moved to Kristiansand 1779 and became master there 1778 ??? Sorry, probably the other way.....

Thanks and excellent knowledge! The town mark stumbled me for it to be Norwegian.

Some additions: This old (oldest?) town mark is actually an S surrounded with a crowned C. (probably from an old town crest CristianSand, town founded 1641). There are/were five other town marks with an animal in use). As said it was a pure coincident that I stumbled into it! Moreover, Landaas used 11 different master punches!!!
