Please help, I have a Birmingham 1801 stamped item, in its original case but am having difficulties deciding the maker. The case has "finest HFB quality" but the stamp on the item looks like H&F though it could be H&B, either way I cant seem to find these makers - can any one help?

"finest HFB quality"
Hi Debb,
That really doesn't sound like ca.1800 marketing slogan. Either the box is newer than the item or you've got the datemark wrong. A photo of at least the marks would help a great deal.
Regards, Tom
Thanks

Thanks Tom, have tried to take photo's but just cant get clear enough to see marks, it has the makers mark, then the anchor, then the lion passant, then a lower case d (looks like you were right, its a bit worn but looks like it could be 1903). Thanks 4 all your help.
Thanks

Thanks Trev, It is a cigrette holder, I think it is made of ivory and amber with a sterling silver surround, just trying to find out more about it! Regards Debb

Hi Debb,
Jackson's list an unidentifified maker H&F in 1904, looks like thy made religious items,

Debb,
Had it been 1801, there would also be a duty mark (king's head), see ->
British Hallmarks

Many Thanks Again
