Second fork with French Marks unrecognised.

Hi again.

Once again, another French dinner fork this time with a mark I do not recognise.

I am fairly sure I recognise the bull/cow head for Paris c1780s but the charge mark is multiple intertwined lines under what looks like a crown - very hard to read. This has resemblances to several Paris marks of the period but none completely identical.

Very hard to photgraph obviously. Any comments appreciated as ths one is not in my ref.

Thanks

Hi,

According to Tardy's the cow's head slooks like the discharge mark for big items for Paris 1775-1781, whereas the intricated lines mark looks like the charge mark for small items for the same period. It is rather unusual to have both marks on the same item. Normally a charge mark for big items would have been used (crowned A for this period).

The community mark (date letter) looks like the crowned P for 1778. For the maker's mark, I have no information.

Hope this helps.
