Help with Indian sub-continent mar

I wonder if someone could help me?

I have 6 spoons. They all have the mark 916 followed by a star. The only other marking is T30.

I am very confused as the 916 should be the mark for 22ct gold from the Indian sub-continent but the spoons are definitly silver coloured!!

I would really appreciate any help offered
