Hello To All
I have recently acquired a small solid silver basket, it is marked on the base with the moon, crown & 800 plus the martin mayer stamp. It was very dirty and whilst cleaning I noticed a stamp on the inside base. Under a loupe it shows a small capital B followed by a large letter A or H with a winged cherub over the top of this letter, there could be another letter following but I am not sure whether is a letter or simply a part of a scroll.
Any help or guidence would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Les

Hard to tell without an image, but it could it be the import mark seen here, http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7350" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The version used 1901-21 has a pair of wings above the letters.

Hi Tom
That was really helpful. You guided me to Austria - Hungary and on page 75 of Tardy it shows the mark - imported between 1901 & 1921. Underneath the german mark on the base is a No.2 would this figure give a guide to the designer of the piece?

Hello, not the designer, but probably an internally used number. Mayer sometimes added numbers to his marks on small silverware. 14 is for food pushers, 17 for bottle stands, 46 is for sugar tongs etc. Best wishes, Bahner
