This piece was made by the Wilcox Silver Plate Company, Meriden, Connecticut.
Their name became Webster-Wilcox in 1960.
It's about 15 inches (38.1 cm) high.
What was it used for?

rojo531, you are very close, but it was not intended to hold sheet music. You have the right idea.
