This item is 4 inches (10.16 cm) long.
The silver mouse slides to open and close the holder.
What was it called?

Here's a couple of clues:

1) Women used this in the 20th century.
2) This item has nothing to do with food.

Hi Pat-
To me it looks like a pair of tweezers.

Hello Byran.

This piece was meant to hold a specific item.
It wasn't meant to pull anything, but I guess it could be used as tweezers.

Hi,

To handle dirty diapers?
Although it does look like it could remove upperlip hair.

I think Byron's answer to the spool holder belongs here. Not pinned to a dress though, ring worn on finger while waltzing.

Hi,
I'm sure I've seen something very similar to Byron's answer, perhaps one inspired the other,

Could very well have been used originally as Byran and Tom descibed.
Maybe later, in the 20th century, someone came up with the idea of using it as a cigarette holder.
