I have a set of Cutlery with Mother of Peal handles, the silver collars on the knives are marked 1906 Sheffield with a makers mark of JS inside a tulip head shaped mark.

The fork tops are marked Sheffield 1899 with a makers mark of WB in an a double overlapping circlular type mark whilst the collars are the same as the knives.

I can't find these makers marks anywhere on the net, I dare say I'm just being thick but does anyone have an idea on them?

sadly I can't get a good focus on the marks themselves.

P.S. Does anyone know what a set like this is for? I bought them around 7 years ago from a Chester jewellers and I think they said they were confectionery or cake knives and forks, the forks are 3 pronged.

I don't know about the maker's mark, but they are fruit knives and forks.

Hi Nigel, thanks for that, I was thinking the same but I couldn't match his marks up with what I have, I've tried to draw an approximation of the mark, could you have a quick look and see if it looks familiar?

I've identified JS as John Sanderson, took me long enough but then I'm 'fick'!

Also, do you have any ideas why the markings on the 'fork tops' I don't know the technical term for them, sorry, are different from the marks on the collars? The collars on all the knives and forks are for John Sanderson, Sheffield, 1899.
and all the fork tops are marked for WB Sheffield 1904, they were presented to someone in 1905.

I thought maybe they'd been converted from spoons or something but it doesn't make sense to me to have a knife and spoon set.

Hi , no the mark is different, l have looked and cannot find a match to a maker, it was not unusual to have a different maker for the different pieces, what l will say it that it looks a set in a very good condition and quite attractive
