This is a Sheffield Item but I'm not sure what it is. Any Ideas? The lid opens up and is hinged at the back. It is 7" across and 2" high & 51/2 deep.
The wooden handel screws on.
Thanks for any help you can give

Hello Mary-
Looks like a bed warming pan, you would place coals in it and pass it over the bed sheets to warm them. At least that is what it looks like to me.
Not really sure what the real terminology for it is, maybe someone else here will let us know.

Looks like a mid-20th century silverplate silent butler to me. Can remember my Mom emptying ashtrays into a similar one during parties.

Thank you Cheryl and Tom-
See mary, I told you someone would know for sure. I got it now, long handle = Warming pan. Short handle (with top knob) = Silent butler.
