Why is there no lions head erased?

Hello,
The marks on this cup and cover are the 1718 date mark, the makers mark for William Fleming and two Britannia marks but no lions head erased mark. Any ideas why other than a forgetful assayer?
Regards,
Trevor

Hi Trevor,
Just a bad day at the office, it's nothing more than human error. But what is perhaps surprising that such errors were not more commonplace considering the thousands of pieces that were marked every year. The assay office markers on the whole were extremely accurate.
Your example will eventually we added to the below list.

Hi,
Genuine marks, the same year, the same maker.
Marks placed side by side for better comparison.
Note obvious differences in details.
