I think this is London and dated it to 1881 but can't find who E.G corresponds to. Much gratitude for help as usual.

well thank-you for that. Iv'e been searching the hallmark site all afternoon in despair ! Here are photos of the 2 pieces. One is a large tray from my great grandmother's which has got just the VS mark on it (the inside is a mirror supported by the silver tray frame) : http://i276.photobucket.com/al...

Never occurred to me to give the measurements! I also didn't mention the brass inner cup. 5.5cm. (2.17 inch) in diameter and 6cm. (2.36 inch) high. Weighs 120g. Would that not be too big for an egg cup ? my eggs are certainly not big enough. Having a closer look there's copper showing through the si...

An odd cup !

Inherited this from my grandparents. Seems to be silver plate repoussée metal( pewter?). I can't think what it was used for, seeem unlikely for drinking out of.
