Is this a French hallmark on a silver-hilt of a smallsword?

The quality of the silver work is excellent, depicting the labors of Hercules. The only mark I could find is a crowned R. Am I correct to assume that this is French ca.1780? Thank you! http://www.sailorinsaddle.com/media/images/product/display_1444_FRENCH_SILVER-HILTED_HERCULES_LABORS_SMALLSWORD_CA_...

Is this a Norwich, CT-made item?

This is a silver sword hilt dating to the early 19th c.. I'm thinking it's American-made. Thanks for your help!

Re: George Thurkle's mark on a sword hilt?

Thanks, buckler! Does the mark in Grimwade resemble the mark shown? I'm not a silver collector per se, I doubt that our provincial library will have many books on the English silver marks. but I'll give it a shot. Would it be improper to ask for a photo of the mark in Grimwade? Thank you very much a...

George Thurkle's mark on a sword hilt?

Hello, This sword dates from ca.1798-1810 by it's features. The bottom of the hilt is marked GT, so is the scabbard shoe. There are no other marks. I was contemplating this being the mark of George Thurkle, a London cutler, who inherited the business of his much more famous and prolific brother Fran...

Thank you very much! Your assessment, based on the links you've provided, is most probably correct. Based on that, this piece dates ca. mid to late 1800s. I thought it was of earlier manufacture, based on the faithful rendition of the Baroque bucolic subject matter, but after looking at some fine Ha...

Please help ID the marks on a snuff box/spice jar.

The decorations and subject matters are baroque in style, but I cannot put my finger on the marks. The size of the piece is about 4 x 6 cm. The marks are quite worn, but you knowledge isn't. :) Thank you in advance! http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n98/Dmitry_01/BOOKS/2010/SILVER%20SHUFF%20BOX/IMG...

Gents, here are the rest of the marks and the view of the hilt itself, which is done in a popular ca. 1775-1785 English military fashion, with a lion's head pommel and slotted guard. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n98/Dmitry_01/IMG_6371-1.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n98/Dmitry_01/IMG_...

Please help - London swilversmith's mark S*O for year 1780.

Hello, friends. I have a silver-hilted English sword, with a London Date Letter (e) = 1780, and the silversmith's mark [S*O] in a shield. I wasn't successful in finding that person's name. Your help in identifying the silversmith would be invaluable! Thank you! http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n98...
