Unknown manufacturer - American?

I have a coffee pot, marked sterling silver with shield markings that look like an eagle head, letter D, and seated figure. It is most likely American, but i cannot find the markings in libraries. I have recently acquired Dutch Art Deco tea pot. The hallmarks look to me as first class silver - there is Minerva with letter A (i think) under the lid and Lion alone on the side of the pot.
