Oneida Par Plate Pattern

Does anyone recognize this pattern by Oneida? This belonged to a friend's grandmother and his mother is looking to add to the set. Thanks for any help.

Re: What-is-it question CLXXIX.

Ok I thought it was a sugar pail but now that there is no food involved, would it be an ash receptacle?

Re: What-is-it question CLXXVIII.

Cool. I kinda thought it was from the shape of the bowl and that the decoration of the bowl liked like the "veins" in citrus fruits.

Keep going Pat (and anyone else), I think these "What is it" questions are alot fun.

I have had one in my "sent box" to the admin since september but haven't received a response. Does that mean the recipient opened it but hasn't responded? And is the difference between the "sent box" and "outbox" the fact that "sent" means it was opened but &q...

Looks like a covered muffin dish. The holes would allow the steam from the muffins to escape and not collect on the top of the dome and then drop back onto the muffins. Because no one likes soggy muffins, you know!

Piece by Whiting (?)

Hello I recently ran across a piece that was stored in the back of my cabinet and had forgotten. When I went to do some research I ran into a little problem. It is marked on the bottom Whiting Co on one side and Sterling 2869 on the other side. I can't find where Whiting used this particular mark. A...

Pattern on Cheese Server

Does anyone recognize this pattern? Since it is just marked Sterling and Stainless Blade, my gut feeling is it is just a pretty piece and not a full line pattern.

From a website dedicated to frog collectors: "In short it seems to be a slang term which was in common use by the 1940s. Company catalogs never referred to the items as frogs. They were flower holders, arrangers, or blocks. Only rarely did the term "frog" occur in a patent. Best guess...
