Re: Glazed back of enamel
Hi AG2012, Can you please post a photograph of the front of the brooch? As you mentioned, sometimes a counter enamel was used on the back of certain pieces during the enamelling process. I have seen a number of objects were counter enamel has been used or not used without clear reason why, for examp...

Re: Unknown French Maker's Mark
Thank you for the suggestion! I don't think the piece is by Aucoc, it is too early for him I believe. I would say circa 1870.
Thank you -

Unknown French Maker's Mark
Hello all -
I wonder if you can help me identify a French maker's mark on a piece of jewellery please. Unfortunately I do not have a photograph of the whole item at the moment, only one of the mark. It appears to be L over A in a lozenge.
Thank you all very much!

Assay master and date mark
Hello all - I have a question. The new assay charter of 1896 brought into place legislation for the new Kokoshnik mark, which would replace previous marks: 84 stamp, town mark, assayer and date mark. As we all understand, this new Kokoshnik was not actually brought into place supposedly until June 1...

18th Century Swiss goblet - marks?
Hi all - I have a question regarding a piece of silver which I believe to be late 17th Century Swiss. Can anyone shed any light on the marks? One appears to be oval with some visible texture, somewhat indecipherable, and the other possibly a maker's mark? LK below a coronet. All help much appreciate...

Hi Phil -
Thanks so much. Could I ask what the source is? I did check your website, but had no luck! Don't have any of my usual resource books to hand at the moment so I'm a bit stuck in a rut!

Re: Russian Fork Identification
Hi all,
I thought it was against forum rules to post asking questions only with a view to selling the object immediately on auction websites! There was once a time where I received a stern ticking off and was issued with a 'board warning' for doing so.
All the best,
P

Hi all, Does anyone know the maker of this spoon? As far as I can tell it is a German piece dating from the late 18thC. 27cm in length and weighing 97g. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj239/ammolithmine/656a3c10-1cfa-4e06-8091-069496ba41b3_zps29vyvkb9.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj239...

Re: Articulated fork / spoon serving tongs
Hi Trev, Many thanks, this is what I thought. The pair are 9" in length, and very interestingly, are clearly made for purpose as opposed to being a rehash of an existing fork and spoon. Also worth noting is the presence of a full set of hallmarks on both the fork and the spoon, plus a heraldic ...

Hi all,
Does anyone know who this unknown Dublin silversmith is? I can't find the mark in Jackson, or anywhere online... The hallmarks are for 1838.
Any information much appreciated.

Hi Goldstein,
Very nice objects, but I think you've made a little mistake here! The second object isn't actually a matchbox - it's a pocket disinfector. I'm sure Qrt.S will vouch for this ;-)) We all make mistakes.

Re: Quiz time
I didn't feel there was any need at the time to show the marks as this question was about the use of the object, not who made it, when and where. I will post clear photos tomorrow when I have the objects to hand.

The marks on the pieces are exactly as they should be. Warsaw 1908-17, Piotr Latkowski.
