Re: Apostle spoons Austro Hungarian import mark

Nice picture, thanks for that information. I did find some documents with his crest butt the leather book is exactly like the leather covering on the boxes. Again, thanks.

Apostle spoons Austro Hungarian import mark

So I have this very nice set of Apostle spoons which have confused me for some time. They have the obvious import mark 1891-1901 with a b for Linz and you can tell it was added at a later date as it is stamped rather heavily into the bowl. There is also a large "N" which is part of the cas...

nice hand wrought spoon ? Scandinavian

I recently started researching a spoon I picked up a few years ago and although I have about 30 books on silver I am lacking in material form Scandinavian countries, and that is where I believe this spoon comes from due to the picture on the handle and type of makers mark ( thats all it has). Any he...

Re: c.1790 Silver Tongs, WB

Miles, I know it has been a long time since you posted your request and wondered if you had ever been satisfied with your tongs being William Breed. The alternate marks for him here ( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~silversmiths/makers/silversmiths/55792.htm" onclick="win...

Re: Serving spoon, possibly Austrian?

Wow, Trev that was amazing. I thought I had looked at everything on this website and maybe I had seen that before but didn't remember or just didn't have the faintest idea of what it was for, in fact I hate to seem ignorant but I'm still a little in the dark. So those are like patent numbers in the ...

Serving spoon, possibly Austrian?

I have this nice large servng spoon with what appears to be Austrian marks. The spoon is in very good condition and the date would appear to be 1518? if following the Austrian date model but that can't possibly be right. I am inclined to think it is a reproduction of an earlier piece somewhat like H...

Re: John Foster II ? Tongs

Graham Hodges book pg 212 ascribes this mark to John Fisher. You can also check his website at http://www.silversugartongs.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for other tongs and info about Mr. Fisher.

Re: Dutch Apostle Spoon

Hi dognose, very nice spoon. I have one quite similiar that has given me grief as well, although it is larger at 7 3/4inches. Your marks are different than what are on mine but the spoons are so close in design and type they might be related in some way. I had considered that mine was also Dutch due...

German sugar tongs ?

I have had this pair of tongs for quite some time but have been stumped as to the origin and maker. I have always thought they were French due to their style but recently stumbled upon a mark which might make them German. The stylized "F" appears to be the date mark for Breslau 1746-1758 b...
