Maurice

Indeed, and the cost was virtually zero. What I used was the very fine plumbers tape and glue, which worked a treat!

Many thanks for giving me the initial confidence to do it.

Re: Silver plate or silver

I apologise for the quality of the photograph, it is an ink blotter that I am interested in buying and the seller is advertising it as silver. Even if it is silver plate I might still be interested, but how much I would be prepared to pay would depend upon the material.

Many thanks

Silver plate or silver

Hi,

Does anyone recognise this hallmark. I haven't come across it before and it doesn't look like a silver hallmark to me. It is from a rocker blotter

Many thanks

Re: Loose Handle

Just be careful don't force anything and use pads, I don't want to be blamed for damage. Maurice Hi Francais, I managed to remove the handle quite easily following your advice. I simply pushed the narrower end of the pin in,until it was flush, which exposed enough of the pin on the other side to ge...

Re: Loose Handle

Hello Francais,

Many thanks for that and it's good to hear that it's not going to be a difficult job; I really had no idea how the the pins in the handle was connected (soldered etc). I have nail punches, but all too big, but I think I know where I can get one.

Thanks again

SP Co silver Sheaffer hallmark?

Hi, I managed to pick up,at a local auction, a lovely oak and silver Sheaffer double inkstand. it's not really old, hallmarked for 1991, Birmingham, but what intrigues me is the silversmith initials SP Co. I've tried to look this up and can only find references to other silver inkstands. Does anyone...

Loose Handle

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this one. I recently won a lovely little Edwardian Aspreys swing tea strainer, the type that has a kettle-shaped drip tray with a long ebonised handle. The strainer swings above this. As it was a 'local auction' but some distance away,I asked for a condition report...

the marks are fake marks. Zolotnik is absolutely right - this spoon is fake. But assayer "В.С" could be Viktor Savinsky, Veniamin Savinsky or Vladimir Smirnov... Hi, Thanks for the contribution, and the obvious effort you've put into trying to identify the spoon, but as I tried to expla...

Hi Zolotnik, I have to apologise again (I just posted an apology on the Russian Silver forum where someone kindly re-posted this), but the photo of the Russian silver marks was from a different spoon, one which I asked aabout last year sometime. The problem with Imageshack is that if you click on a ...

Re: Religious Spoon?

Hi, I bought this spoon at Auction quite a few years back when it was described as an Antique European Silver Religious Spoon. It was really very tarnished but no sign of any maker's or silver marks. I initially posted on another forum about a year back as i couldn't work out how to post pics on th...

Re: Can anyone help me with the maker?

Your spoon is Russian and made in St Petersburg in 1878. The maker is a Finn, Enock Johan Sistonen born 7.9.1836 in Rantasalmi Finland. He became master 1868 and marked to 1906. The assayer is Ivan Yestigneyev 1870-1894. Yes, your spoon is genuine. Good Morning, Many thanks for that, I could find t...

Can anyone help me with the maker?

Hi, Can anyone help me with the maker of this spoon. The photos are not brilliant, I'm afraid, but I think that the marks are clear enough. Does it also look genuine? I was taken with the French inscription, thinking that this probably added to the likelihood that it is genuine, but you never know. ...
