Re: Asprey item. What is it ?
Many thanks for the link. It caused a good discussion but no definate conclusion. It does look right on the Cognac bottle though but would think it would be a nuisance when you poured the drink and it would have to be positioned precisely to catch any drips. So maybe the jury is still out on this on...

Re: Asprey item. What is it ?
Oh ok, yes I can see that working. Looking on the net, can't find much at all to compare it with though, so maybe they're quite rare. Its hallmark is quite rubbed but I think its Birmingham 1929. Can't find anything more about it though.

https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Have aquired this pretty item. It is made by ASPREY London, Made in England and I thought it was a posy holder, but now not sure as the bowl part seems very open to hold flowers and with the chain, where would you hang it...

Re: Any ideas
Many thanks, I think you have solved it. Looking up under Novelty cruet sets, I found your example and one other and think that its bottle is pepper, jug is mustard and beaker is open salt.. The tray is the same as your example. Its a shame the only mark on it is the Victorian date lozenge, but I gu...

Re: Any ideas
Thanks for the suggestion. The beaker has a pattern all the way round if you can see it on the pic, would have thought the others would also if it was just for sugar.
Would the Victorians have eaten spice and pickles ?

Re: Help with a Chinese parasol handle
Yes, I thought it was a restruck mark. You can make out some of the same letters underneath but they are not as 'strong' as the obvious MUSASHIYA. Would love to know who the designer/silversmith was, it is such a beautiful object and have been unable to find another (other than the original one in t...

Re: Help with a Chinese parasol handle
Dont know if you still have this item, but I have a similar handle, slighty diferent shape but same decoration of hanging wisteria and on mine it has the Jungin mark and the word MUSASHIYA who I believe are Japanese makers from Yokohama.
