Looking for better quality
I've been collecting sterling, specifically baby cups for awhile now and Im looking to start upgrading my collection. I have the usual stuff, Gorham, Kirk, etc. Anyone have any advice on this? Should I be looking at Tiffany? Cartier? or are there other high qualitiy to add?

Traveling Baby Cup??
I bought this at an antique store and was wondering if anyone had an idea as to what it is. It's made by Gorham, 20th century. I was thinking maybe a traveling baby cup, or maybe a traveling shaving cup?? It's 2.5 inches in diameter, 1.5 inches high. http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m537/RAB3Grou...

Gold Hallmarking
I have a nice collection of sterling but would like to expand it to include some gold. I have seen gold pieces in the shops, but havent pulled the trigger to buy anything due to lack of knowledge. I know the basics of marking such as 9kt, 14kt, 18kt, etc and 750, 583, ect. What I am looking for is a...

Collecting Silver Education
Does anyone know of any classes, online/physical, that specializes in teaching about sterling silver? The most that I have found is just reading and the actual handling of the items. So, I have been picking up books for my reference library (Fales, Martha Gandy. Early American Silver and Hood, Graha...

Re: Flatware Items
Thanks Jay and JLDoggett, that seems like a lot of pieces in that pattern. As far as putting my set together, I'm more looking at just using them on a daily basis after I get it put together, not really for just the special occasions. I guess my goal would be like any other then, pick up whatever I ...

Flatware Items
I am putting together a set of Georgian Towle sterling flatware and am in need of a guide. I've looked all over and cant seem to find an answer to this question. If I put together a set for a service of 6, what is needed? How many teaspoons? Forks? What is needed for a really nice set? egg spoons? i...

Help with Marks: Spaulding & Co/Dominick & Haff??
Got this sterling silver bowl today, if anyone can tell me what it was used for that would be great. It is marked "Spaulding and Co", "Sterling", "694" and also has a mark similar to "Dominick & Haff". Its a similar mark, but has 1890 in the diamond. Its a...

Re: Samuel Godbehere 1785 Lovecup
Yes, those show up, thats the only two there, I breathed on it and nothing else shows up, and theres nothing unusual on the back that I can see. I took it to an antique lady here in Vegas and she said it was defiantly sterling and it looked good. I had a link to an auction that was held in England t...

Re: Samuel Godbehere 1785 Lovecup
I dont see any lines around it. Are you talking like a line all the way around the whole mark? When I breath on it, nothing shows up. I can see the individual punch marks on the inside of the cup, 5 little indentations where it was stamped one at a time.

Is there a list or something that list the silversmith who made items for the Royal Family? Will the pieces have a coat of arms on them?

Begining Sterling Collecting
I'm not new to collecting sterling silver items, but I am new to getting serious about it. I've collected baby sterling silver cups over the years and I have bought some spoons/forks as I've come across them, but nothing serious. What I'm looking for is to move into the serious collecting and thats ...

Sterling Baby Cups
Does anyone know anything about Sterling Baby Cups? Is there a reference on this subject? I've been collecting them for about 8 years now and they seem pretty scarce at antique shops. I can find them online such as eBay, but in person very hard. I was just wondering about the manufactures and the co...
