silverplate tray identification photo shy

identification of silver dish hallmarks - British
It looks like an ashtry it is about 6 1/2 inches across but does not have indents for cigs to sit in. It has markings on the top rim, not on the bottom as usuall. I have searched the site and not found anything, so I am asking all you forum friends for help. The markings are , the 1st one is intials...

My question is : I have a silver plate tray with handles and it looks very old and it has a picture that is half faded off of a soldier with a gun across his front and a strap over his shoulder.
