Re: Help With Markings on Gordon Highlanders Dirk
Trev, Thank you once again for the concrete lead on Andrew Fraser. The 92nd Gordon Highlanders were in India 1868-1881, then Natal South Africa 1881-1885, then the Channel Islands 1885-1887, and thereafter Belfast 1887-1892. Do you suppose any of these locations are likely to have a silversmith capa...

Re: Help With Markings on Gordon Highlanders Dirk
Trev, On closer inspection the top mark is indeed STGSIL. Enclosed below is a hand drawn image of the maker's mark that appears on each of the fittings. The A is inaccurately drawn to be broader than it actually is. Many thanks for your help. Mike http://www.4freeimagehost.com/uploads/72cc79b29b3d.j...

Re: R & HB Kirkwood, Edinburgh
Hi, Welcome to the Forum. The working period for Robert & Henry Bruce Kirkwood appears to be 1872 until 1915. However, the business appears to have been continued by the oddly named Elizabeth 'Henry' Kirkwood, who continued to submit work to the Edinburgh Assay Office until 1965. Trev. Thank yo...

R & HB Kirkwood, Edinburgh
Would anyone know the years of operation of the Edinburgh silversmiths and goldsmiths 'R&HB Kirkwood, 66-68 Thistle St, Edninburgh' whose maker's tablet appears on military badges, brooches, and accoutrements. I have not seen the Kirkwood mark on any hallmarked badge past about 1912. I infer fro...
