Re: Catholic Relic in 800 silver reliquary
That page also states "silver standards were .800 and .925 marked within an oval cartouche".
The 800 on this piece is not within any shape.

Re: Catholic Relic in 800 silver reliquary
Neumann lived in Philadelphia at the time of his death, and had been in the US for decades. Wouldn't that suggest that the case was made in the US?Traintime wrote:Just to star, here are Italian mark types (look down): https://www.925-1000.com/Fitalian_marks_01.html

Catholic Relic in 800 silver reliquary
The hallmark is on the rim of a Catholic first class relic, with the back being 23mm in diameter, the front being 35mm (about 1.25inches). I'm hoping to decipher the hallmark to date the relic. The hallmark is worn, 3mm wide, and shiny. A 10x loupe, 20x loupe, digital camera and usb camera and we st...

I've also been wondering if there is yet another mark to the right of the anchor to the left of that ball. There's something there but it may not be a hallmark.

Re: Trying to id the sterling of an encased 1887 Gilded Shilling
I can confirm that the hallmark is definitely Birmingham 1900. However your guess at HH is going to be wide of the mark. Hannah Howard was working as a watch case maker in the first part of the 19th century so HH cannot be her on the basis of both date and the fact that case makers seldom made anyt...

Trying to id the sterling of an encased 1887 Gilded Shilling
This thing has me baffled. This is a beautiful item. It is a 1887 Shilling, the Queen Victoria “jubilee” head type, that was gilded, then enameled, then encased in sterling and glass. At the top there's a hole that suggests there might have been a bail making this a pendant. At the very bottom there...

Re: Blackinton boot but not a corkscrew. No idea what it is!
Could you call this a "Vesta Case" as a general category for this item? ::: I was thinking this could be a match safe to protect matches from moisture, but it looked a little too different to be considered for that function ::: The interior of the boot seems too narrow for wooden match st...

Wilcox Silver Plate Co oval tray with wood insert, hoping for more info about it
This tray is 9.5" long, just over 6" wide, 1.5" high at the center of the edging, but 2.25" tall at the tallest point of the handle. The four feet unscrew, and I can say that the wood is plywood. However, plywood was introduced into the US in 1865, so that's not particularly help...

Blackinton boot but not a corkscrew. No idea what it is!
Hiya! Wow, it's been a while since I've had to make my own post here... I just came across a R Blackinton Co boot. However, almost all of them that I'm seeing pics of have a corkscrew/bottle opener in them. Mine does not. Mine has something in it alright, but I haven't a clue as to what it is or why...

Re: Picture Frame, can't identify
It's not that I can't believe you, not that's not it at all. The collection that this is from is filled with items that are quite old and quite varied. We have dozens of tea balls, spoons, trays, and all sorts of stuff from the 1800's, some earlier. For us to find an item from 1987 is just so odd. H...

Re: Picture Frame, can't identify
I sort of see the RC mark. They've only been around since 1976.
They seem pretty current on social media, so I emailed them directly and asked.

After using the microscope I see that it's not a W at all, but 1987? No, it can't be.juantotree wrote:Hi,

Picture Frame, can't identify
I can't make heads or tails out of this thing. I've used a loupe. I've taken pictures of them and played with them digitally, altering colors and lighting and shadows and every other setting I can think of to try and see the hallmarks better. More than likely it's just that I'm just not knowledgeabl...

Re: Odd Gorham container...?
So I went digging online for a pixel to inch calculator. It took a while but I did eventually find one here. http://tiporama.com/tools/pixels_inches.html Here is your problem, which is what I explained earlier. On a 75dpi display, 525x525 pixels is a seven inch square picture. On a 120dpi display, 6...
