Thanks Phil. Your images show the difference quite clearly. Other sites do not show the marks in such good detail as you do.

Birmingham 1914 or 1939?

I wonder if someone could please offer an opinion whether this date mark is 1914 or 1939? The sponsor's mark indicates to me that the date is more likely to be 1914 but the date letters seem so similar..... Thanks Phil for your reply and your very useful website. I now see that one thing that should have told me it wasn't a "b" is the serif(?) at the top of the left "upright".

Is this Hayes Bros hallmark correct?

This napkin ring appears to have a date letter of 1876 (or 1901).

However, it is missing a duty-paid mark if it is 1876. Is that strange?

If it is 1901, were Hayes Bros manufacturing then?
