M & Co 5581 Silverplate Dish..

I bought this from a local swapmeet today, for $1.. I tried searching the hallmark, M & Co 5581 and haven't found anything. I checked the M marks library but I didn't find anything yet. Looking at the symbols, looks like an S, not sure of the second one, and a P... I am pretty sure this is silve...

Vintage German Silver Chain Mesh Purse..

My dad found this in a box of stuff... I am curious as to the hallmark; a crown with the letter P inside it. It "smells" like silver.. Any ideas as to how old this might be? Thanks....

To clean or not to clean..... An important question..

I have close to 100 pieces of silver and silver-plate flatware. I have read a number of pros and cons about cleaning and polishing. My gut tells me to gently clean with a polishing cloth and that's it. These pieces are anywhere from 50 years to 100+ years old and honestly feel that "polishing&q...

Re: R. Harris & Co., 1881 Pattern Name

Cheryl, Thank you so much for answering that question. Farther down the stem it was stamped "R. Harris & Co." and that was how I was researching it.. I did notice the hallmark stamp at the base of the bowl, with a tiny "W" kind of intertwined in the stamp.. My mom has a bunch...

Re: Newark Silver Demitassie Spoon?

Thanks for the additional info and the time you took to research that. I want to think it is sterling, but not sure. Maybe its just me, but sterling silver gives off this distinct odor, and this spoon "smells" like sterling silver.. It will be interesting if we can find out more.. Thanks a...

R. Harris & Co., 1881 Pattern Name

This spoon is approximately 6-3/4" long, with the bowl about 1-1/4" across. I would like to know what the pattern name is so I can do some additional research. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Potosi Silver, Birmingham Hallmark?

I recently purchased these sugar tongs, and was curious to know how old they might be? Can this be deciphered by the characters in the hallmark stamp? I believe the last stamp is an R and a D. Any information that anyone can provide, would be greatly appreciated. Lori https://www.925-1000.com/pics/X...

Gorham Demitasse Cup Holder.. Sterling or Plate?

I tried to research the marks on this demitasse cup holder I bought today. Some Internet info says it's plated, other info says it's sterling. Can someone verify one way or the other? The mark shows "GORHAM E P YC 178" Thank you for you help. Lori
