Dutch Deco Baby Spoon - Maker's mark?
Hello Everyone, Found this adorable Dutch spoon recently, it's small, about 4.5 inches, guess it is a baby or maybe a coffee spoon. It only has 2 marks, both on the back of the bowl. One is the Dutch sword mark for silver and the other is a maker's mark that looks like a crown over VKB. I hope someo...

Hello Lolo, Thanks so much for posting the pic. Waylander is right, the marks are Egyptian and from before 1946. The one on the left tells the purity and city it was produced in, but the photo isn't clear enough to make it out. Tardy's Silver Marks shows examples from Cairo and Alexandria and they a...

Hi Sadmark, That's a handsome fruit knife. I've read that Victorian and Edwardian gentlemen carried them to deal with an apple or pear, while on the run. The sterling blade not being strong or sharp enough to handle much else besides fruit, sometimes they have a second blade with a curved pick at th...

Hi lolo, I can answer your question, the problem is, I just don't want to. Why? there is just nothing in it for me. True, it gives me a good feeling to help someone out, but I want more, I want to learn too. If you put up a photo of a mark and I identify it, you've learned something. I've learned no...

Hi, Waylander is right, a single letter maker's mark is very, very unusual on post 17th century items. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I see another faint mark between the Birmingham anchor and the H mark, I'm guessing it is the maker's mark. Any chance of a close-up pic from the anchor to the...

Hello,
I don't know the maker's mark, but the 90 is a German designation for silver plate and the number indicates how thick it is.
German silver marks for solid silver have standardised system that you can read about here:
German Hallmarks
Hope this helps.

Italian maker on modern handwrought bowl
Hi All, Got a puzzler here. The bowl is fairly modern, sometime in the last 40 years at a guess, it is a handwrought piece with repousse domes and has a hammered finish and is about 8in. in diameter. The marks indicate it is Italian .800 silver made in Florence. The maker's mark - BR and the seal ar...

Hello, Yes, it is German, the pattern is called Hildesheimer Rose, and it was made by a number of companies. I don't know the maker's mark, but the 90 is a German designation for silver plate and the number indicates how thick it is. German silver marks for solid silver have standardised system that...

Spratling dates & production
Hello,
I was wondering if Spratling's company continued production after his death (1960's?). I have a piece with his mark, but it is also marked TS-24. I thought this type of code marking was not instituted by the Mexican government until sometime in the mid 1970's.
Thanks, io
