Re: Assorted marks - mostly Scandinavian

I have a set of 13 large desert spoons. They come in two styles, 5 like the upper two and the rest like the lower two. The main obvious difference is on the back where the upper ones have no border around the rim. the unbordered ones are the oldest dating from 1845 and bear the maker's mark A.M. The...

Assorted marks - mostly Scandinavian

I've recently inherited a random assortment of silver, mostly flatware and mostly Scandinavian. There are items from a large number of of Makers so rather than clog up the Scandinavian forums I will post pictures of the maker's marks here in case they are of interest to some on the forum.

Re: Silver Box

No, I don't think you will find them there but you could to buy them via internet. Try "Svenskt Silversmide..." I see a couple of the 1520 - 1850 available on line at the moment for approximately USD 600. Seems a lot for someone to pay to check the family silver especially since most of m...

The ghosting of the original mark can clearly be seen between the letters of the overstrike.

Which is curious. Obviously they were not trying hard to hide the fact.

Re: Silver Box

I think that this W&T.B mark stands for Wallin & Thorsén i Borås 1927-1960. Their usual mark is W&T but there seems to be a dot after T so the B in the maker's mark could stand for Borås. The letter in the circular mark is a capital serif B for Borås. I found example of Wallin &...

Re: Silver Box

Found a somewhat longer list of town marks at http://www.swedac.se/sv/Dokument/Informationsmaterial/Forteckning-over-ortsmarken/ Which made me realise that Uppsala is in a square while Umeå is in a circle. It also looks a bit like Norrtälje if ones uses imagination but there's nothing I can be sur...

Silver Box

I thought that this would be an easy one since it is reasonably recent. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Looks Swedish from the 3 Crown/ S stamps and in any case I believe it was purchased in Sweden as a gift for EH. The O8 would therefore make it 1940, w...

Re: Spoon Set

Thanks for all that Hose. You've really built the picture. I've since found 2 more desert spoons and a fork of the same set and a small ladle with the empire design but a different maker. Presumably there are more forks somewhere else but perhaps they were given to another arm of the family at some ...

My mother's and father's parents lived in Huskvarna so Jonkoping might fit.

and it's an interesting story. While he was not officially allowed to work he obviously was a skilled silversmith who produced some quality material, probably quite a lot since you know of him.

Re: Spoon Set

ES is Erik Stridbeck born approx 1770 he is a "fri mester" (free master i.e. he is not member of the guild and as so no permitted to Work) in 1811-1814. He dies 1842. Thanks Hose. So the 6 ES spoons are actually quite a bit older than the others even though the pattern is almost identical.

Re: Flat thing

Thanks Trev

Asking Google for images of "watch key' produces many similar things. Hard to see how effective it would be since the bit that presumably goes into the watch is a completely round tube but it must have worked. A square or triangular fitting might have wound better.

I presume that this is part of a larger object but that's as far as I get. The ring rotates.

Re: Spoon Set

Try this link http://www.925-1000.com/denmarkA.html That's where I got the L Berth and LB results. The ES could be E Soerensen but because the ES is the only mark on the spoon I wondered if it was something else. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Would it be common that a set of cutlery was ac...

Re: Some Swedish spoons

Fascinating how terms with country names can go both ways. Qrt wrote "The pattern is an old European rococo pattern in Sweden called "gammalfransk" (old French) but in France and generally it is called "palmes suédois" It's as if both are denying responsibility. Not that pal...

Re: Some Swedish spoons

My digital microscope has a minimum setting of 30 times magnification so hence the multiple pictures. There is always overlap but I guess one does not not always get the proper impression. Here's a photo with my camera zoomed right in on macro. Perhaps I should be doing this on all but the smallest ...

Spoon Set

I have three set of spoons of different sizes but the same pattern, 12 of the large, 6 of the medium and 12 of the small. They all have much the same style though the middle size ones look rougher. Would these have been part of a large dinner set with forks and knives as well? Is this a very common ...
