Hi Steve, Apologies for the delay in reply... your appear to have out me on the right track . I have matched a makers mark to William Green & co who were registered in Sheffield in 1784 and I believe the date letter on the slice is 1788 which would tie in with the dates of the maker ...so appear...
Yes there does seem to be an issue with the uploading process, although there is a chance it maybe my laptop. The slice has a full set of London hallmarks to the blade , dating it 1792. i will try and get the rest of the photos on today. thanks for your help
HI ALL , I HAVE A FISH SERVER THAT HAS AN UNUSUAL HALLMARK TO THE HANDLE, IT APPEARS TO BE CROWN SHAPED WITH SOME LETTERING UNDERNEATH. Thanks for the reply , I do agree this is most likely an Edinburgh maker, on closer inspection this differs from Nicholson mark and the date letter would place this after or around his death. Hopefully i can put a name to the mark eventually. Thanks again for your replay . Regards James
Hi , i have this small toddy ladle with some interesting marks, the makers mark appears to be of John Nicholson of cork but its also stamped with Edinburgh marks. Hi everyone, i was wondering if any one has a method of removing elastic band marks , I've purchased some rather nice Scottish spoons online and sadly arrived grouped with an elastic band, this has left some rather unsightly marks on the handles. Hi Western , apologies for not replying sooner, i have been away for a few days, first chance i've had. thanks for the information, i'm always much happier when i can put a name to a mark. I will try and find myself a copy of that book. Thanks again James
Hi all , i have this old English pattern dessert spoon , only has a single makers mark which i think is JL or possibly JT. if anyone has an idea on the maker would be much appreciated. Thanks James
Hi Trev. Thanks for your reply on both my posts, I'm certain your are correct with the Colin Robertson attributation , the makers punch appears identical. As to this one i guess i will continue the hunt..i do think you are right , the lettering appears to be different, i will look into colonial mark...
Hi. another spoon that was in a lot of Scottish Provincial spoons, appears to be marked RR or RB. the closest match I've found is Robert Robertson of Cupar, but the style of spoon suggest this is too early for his work. appreciate any suggestions. Thanks https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https:...
Hi, another spoon from the same Scottish Provincial lot. Marked with TG and a tree, this seems very similar to a Glasgow mark but no makers mark matches. again any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks
Hi all, I have this interesting Hanoverian pattern dessert spoon stamped 3 times with CR, i have not yet been able to match a maker, This came from a lot of Scottish Provincial spoons but no makers seems to quite fit the date. HI all , came across 3 table spoons (all identical as the one pictured) they are struck 3 times with a makers mark, unfortunately quite obscured. Was hoping someone with a better eye maybe able to help identify it. My best guess is maybe RC in a similar script style to Hester Bateman's mark, possibl...
