Re: Austrian-Hungarian? fruit bowl

Merry Christmas to you too.

Sorry I can't help with the maker but the 800 silver Dianakopf is Hungarian, 1937 - 1966. Wait and see if Krisztián can identfy the maker

Cheers,
Steve

Re: London Maker's Mark: I R C ?

Hi Steven,

A close look at your excellent photo reveals the sponsors mark has an overstrike. Looks to me to simply be RC for Richard Crossley. The 2nd strike moved to the right leaving the the horizontal stroke of the R beneath showing.

Cheers,
Steve

I just realised you said the spoon was made in Sønderorg, not Tønder. That was merely where the maker was born. :)

Re: 1797 Scandinavian Spoon

Thanks Silverstone, that's great info!

I actually looked at Tonder in the beginning as I have a slightly later Paul Hansen spoon but ruled it out.

Thankyou again,
Steve

1797 Scandinavian Spoon

Hi All, A friend has sent me these pics and asked for help in identifying the place of origin and maker. I'm thinking possibly Finland, Norway or Sweden but cannot rationalise the marks to any of these but my knowledge in this area is very limited. Any help/info you can offer will be be greatly appr...

Re: Help identify hallmark on Fork

I would suggest you are reading the makers mark upside down. If so, we are looking at a four leaf clover above the letters EF, FF, EB etc. I have found the silver plate maker Emile Bré who's mark was " un trèfle à quatre feuilles " (a four leaf clover) with initials EB, who was working aro...

Re: Unknown Marks -Help

Welcome to the Forum Jon, I suspect the reason you are having difficulty is that your Victorian pint mug is made from pewter rather than silver. It was commercially used in a pub/ale house and as such its capacity was required to be verified. The crowned VR(Victoria Regina) over 507 is a British Wei...

Hi All,

These photos are for a current eBay listing in Australia and do not belong to the OP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is against forum rules.

Re: Is this an antique ... roach clip!?

I believe it is a part from a table lighter which holds a piece of wadding. This is sits in the container of fluid and is removed and lit by the flame burning on the top of the lighter, then brought up to the cigar/cigarette to light. There is a very similar example of one currently online for sale ...

The medal depicts more than just the Dundee coat of arms, it is the flag of the Lord Provost(Mayor) of Dundee. I have been unable to find a Dundee Lord Provost by the name of Robert Doyle but I have found a city councillor of that name.... "In May(sic 1967)after the council elections, a new com...

Re: TH 800 Unknown

Hi Colin, Yes you are correct in your thinking that it is Yogya. The makers mark is well known, but as is still mostly the case, an actual identification hasn't been made. Your mark can found on list of Yogya makers marks in the below link. Click on the blue link "initialen" on the page be...

Re: Unknown Marks WW 800 on Ice Tongs

I agree with Bahner and am sure this is Yogya silver. Yogya silver is very common here is Australia and there is a known Yogya silver smith with the maker mark of WW but the identity has not been established. Datewise, it is most likely to be mid 1950's through to early 1970's which was the peak per...

Re: Tasmanian Sargison's-style server: Maker suggestions?

Hi Silverk, You are spot on with your hypothesis. The maker is Margaret Mather and she worked for Sargisons for the length of her entire career between 1947 and 1994. While working for Sargisons she also operated from a home workshop where she manufactured under her own MM mark and is noted for some...

Re: HELP please with ID

Hi Terri, Yes, you should describe it it as being German and from Hanau. Looking through the right hand heart and dagger mark, I now believe that the mark underneath is the standard German crescent and crown as would be expected. I looked online and found two pieces, a candelabra and a goblet. The f...

Re: HELP please with ID

Hi Terri232, An interesting set of marks to be sure...I see the makers mark belonging to Ferdinand Henzler of Hanau Germany plus a version of a"Heart and Dagger" mark of which I've not seen before, struck twice. The heart and dagger mark was used by numerous makers to represent the town of...

Re: mark of anchor, ship, C and something else

They are provincial assay marks of the Scottish town of Greenock. The clippership, anchor, stylised oak tree and letter G were all used in different combinations by different makers with the addition of their makers mark. The rubbed mark you mention will be a makers mark. A strong candidate for the m...

Re: Unknown silver marks, maybe European?

Hi Silvermax1,

Your fork is made from 11 denier silver which is the equivalent of 917 fineness. It was made between 1857 and 1920. Hopefully someone else can identify the actual date letter and maker for you.

Cheers,
Steve
