Re: Sugar tongs- need assistance to identify

Are there any marks inside the bending of the sugar tongs (in the other end)? Sugar tongs are in some cases marked there.

Re: Sugar tongs- need assistance to identify

Hi!

Probably unknown master (PL#731) from Kostroma. The two dots behind the neck supports this also.

The possibility of a praxis that on objects which might get broken with the hallmarkings only the oval kokoshnik was placed beside the makers mark.

Re: Cigarette case hallmark

Hi! To my knowledge the Russian hallmarking system consisted of the following silver standards: - 84 standard introduced in May 1798 which is of course the most common - then there was the 76 standard which was used from the turn of 18th/19th century (PL#10) - then there was the higher grade standar...

Clean the marks and take a close up of the photos to be able to identify the marks.

Re: Pillbox/snuffbox?

Hi!

Could not find any other E.B maker in PL so if the city mark is Moscow most probably Ubaranda has the right silversmith.

Re: possible Rappoport silver?

Hi!

Agree with Sasropakis it is clearly Cyrillic ГР so PL #606 (unknown maker in Kiev).

Just forget about Julius Rappoport and Fabrage, nothing to do with them. Even the quality is nothing close to their work.

Re: 17th/18th century tankard?

Hi! Thank you both for the confirmation of the time period and also for the most likely maker, nice to know these for a certainty. As for the repoussé work so it would have been made maybe in the 19th century when it was more fashionable for these works, part of the history of the tankard even that ...

Re: 17th/18th century tankard?

Hi Trev, Missed somehow the rest of markings in the engravings so here they are. The first shown mark must be an owners mark (?) and it is in the handle. Do I estimate correctly the tankard to be from 1689-90 or are the markings later? If so impressed by the fact that haven't had a 17th century tank...

17th/18th century tankard?

Hi! I am puzzled with this date letter which I believe would be from 17th/18th century and probably from London. As seen the tankard itself is clearly old so the tankard could easily be estimated to be from the time or is it a historism type of product. Any other markings I have not been able to tra...

Re: Russian 84 silver spoons: fake or not

Hi! The point was that in earlier threads in this forum (you can use the search function) the working period for Lev Oleks in Moscow was debated if he was an assayer during a couple years (ex. 1892) in Moscow according to which authenticity was then questioned. Later seems to have been agreed to be ...

Re: Russian 84 silver spoons: fake or not

Hi! There seems to be still a question mark on the authenticity as according to the mark it shows that the spoon to be assayed by Lev Oleks in 1892 but in previous debate there has been uncertainty if Lev Oleks worked as an assayer in 1892. Also especially this type of mark by Lev Oleks is very typi...

Re: Rare Petrograd marking

Checked the history so you are correct that the name was actually changed already by the imperial authorities so the assumption of the communist authorities was not correct. Would be interested to hear if there is any more information of the marking.

Rare Petrograd marking

Hi! Found a set of spoons marked just after the revolution in 1917 with the new added 'Petrograd' mark after the city of St.Petersburg had changed the name by the new communist rule. I believe the new mark was just added to the previous rule of marking by the communist authorities to ensure the chan...

Re: Please help ! face or not

Hi! The samovar is typical to its appearance for mid 19th century Russian silver with a neorococo outlook which was very fashioned at the time, however I myself would consider it authentic and a quality object to its appearance and valuable at the time. The marks seems as expected from the time some...

Re: Looking for some info re:markings

Hi!

A good decision not to buy. These are very commonly faked judica objects with poor quality casting of silver parts and marks which resemble nothing close to an authentic marking.

Re: Help with Identification

Hi! I thought your own picture showed just general rjumka's of Russian silver by different makers but if you have them by the same maker as redfoxcox rjumka then you are correct with the maker. I also wanted to differ the maker of this rjumka from the court supplier Ovtschinnikov which was some what...
