Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply.

I don't want to sound argumentative, but why then was most early Mexican silver stamped with BOTH the eagle and 925 (or whatever) mark?

I thought the eagle indicated Taxco - and was then replaced with the "TC-45", etc. marks?

Thanks,
Ellen

Help With Antonio Pineda Necklace Mark

Hi - Can anyone tell me if Antonio Pineda worked in anything other than sterling (925 or 970) in the 1950's or 60's? Like silver plate?? I recently purchased an Antonio Pineda necklace which is a beauty - the moonstones and silver are gorgeous. It's marked with both the Antonio crown and the Taxco e...

Hi Tom - After sending them photos over the weekend, Hazorfim got back to me this morning about the ID on these pieces. Apparently they don't keep / haven't kept actual records of marks and designs. I was told that the oldest working employee of the firm (he's been there 40 years) had been consulted...

Hi -

While this isn't the answer you're looking for, - take a look at the question & photos I posted yesterday (Taxco 925 & Carved Amethyst Ring). It looks like we have the same maker.

Help With 925 Kiddush Cup & Underplate Maker - Israeli?

Hi- Can anyone identify the makers mark on this gorgeous 925 kiddush cup & underplate set? I've searched everywhere, but can't find anything even remotely similar. I'm not sure what the country of origin might be - Israel? The detailing is incredible... Thanks In Advance, Ellen http://img.villag...

Taxco 925 & Carved Amethyst Ring - Miguel Melendez?

Hi I recently acquired a really wonderful Taxco 925 & carved amethyst ring - see included photos. I had originally thought the mark was Miguel Melendez, but the more I examine it, the more I think it may not be. ? Does anyone know if this IS Miguel Melendez? If not, do you know who it might be? ...

I don't have a scanner so I can't post all of the marks for you, but the 'Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers' by Dorothy Rainwater has all the Kirk marks listed up until 1961.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your help very much, but I was really asking about whether anyone knew if Dansk had perhaps added or detracted something from the original casting - altered the casting in some very slight way so that there was a concrete way of determining old vs new. My meat for...

Alvin 'Raphael' Original vs Recast

Hi I recently purchased an absolutely gorgeous Alvin cold meat fork in their 'Raphael' pattern. It has "sterling" and the old Alvin mark on the back neck. I had assumed it was c.1906 (the original casting), but I just read that Dansk has been recasting several of the original Alvin pattern...

Help With Maker & Country Of Origin?

Hi I found this spoon at an estate sale. It 'feels' like silver and the '800' mark makes me think it is, but I'm not sure. I'm lisitng it under 'German Silver' because it's the only country you have listed that used '800' in their mark, but it doesn't have the national mark, so I'm confused. It's a ...

Hi Tom

Yes, although there's surprisingly little about on him online, I discovered who he was with a search after Patrick gave me the makers name.

Thanks - yes they are beautiful pieces. I've never seen anything like them...

Thanks again to you both for your help.

Ellen
