Hi there, I have this spoon, and I cannot work out if it’s a silver hallmark or a silver plate hallmark. Can anyone help me?

Interesting. So they must have run their separate businesses from that same address.

Re: Information needed on Fitzmaurice West of 1 St James's St
Hi Trev, I think you must be correct on the past employment reference.
On your 1842 Palmer reference, was he still noted as being at the 1 St James’s Street address ?

Re: Information needed on Fitzmaurice West of 1 St James's St
Dear Trev and Phil Thank you so much for your responses, I really do appreciate your time. West's adverts do say 'Late Palmer' which should indicate that he took over the business at that address. Trev, your advert from 1840 does indeed prove that he was at that address in his own right at that time...

Information needed on Fitzmaurice West of 1 St James's St
Dear All Trev very kindly helped me get some information yesterday on the silversmith, John Irving. Irving manufactured the silver for a vanity box by Fitzmaurice West. I am trying to research F. West and have only found the following...if indeed the following is correct: West established his busine...

Thank you both for taking the time to respond, i really appreciate it.
Trev, what was the relationship between Harris & Brownett and John Ivings?
There seems to be very little information on Ivings, might you know his working address?
My sincerest thanks again

Re: Recommendation for a UK silver repairer/ restorer
Hi there I have a small silver box (19.7cm length x 4.3cm width x 3.1cm height) from a fitted dressing case that somebody has previously (and crudely) put together. The box has light rippling to the walls (internal and external), but especially to the base. The joinery to the base is rather unsight...

Does anyone know the relevance of '20 M' stamped on to silver/ plate?
Hi there
I have a silver or silver plate basin from a French Necessaire de Voyage from around 1820. On the rim it has been stamped with '20' and an 'M'. Does anyone know what this might refer to?
Many thanks

Can anyone recommend a good silver gilder in the UK?
Hi there I have a few antique (c.1850) silver and brass pieces that need gilding. I know many places offer a gold plating service, but I'm looking for a finish as close in appearance to the original mercury gilding finish (rich yellowy orange colour in a matt/satin finish). I'm based in London, UK, ...

Re: Help with a potentially early French Hallmark
Your knowledge on this subject is incredibly impressive! Thank you so much for giving me your time. I am struggling to make out what that mark is in the second photo - it is only looking like a random shape with no discernible detail. The fact that you can date it to within a 6 year period is more t...

Re: Help with a potentially early French Hallmark
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me! This is great information. There does seem to be the silver mark on the rims as you mentioned. Additionally, there is a '1' on both the small perfume lids. Might you know what grade of silver this is? I assume its more than 925. My sincere than...

Help with a potentially early French Hallmark
Hi there I have acquired some silver gilt pieces from a Necessaire de Voyage, and I am struggling to find a date and a maker's mark. I was wondering if anyone may be able to kindly help me with this? The matching marks seem to have a lady's face looking viewer's left with a '1' by it. Additionally t...
