Silver Salts
Hi, I've purchased these two wonderful salts. They were simply advertised as continental. I could be completely wrong but I think they may have the crowned V mark. The date letter for 1847. It is the makers mark, 'IR' or 'IB' which is confusing me. I've looked on this site Posting Requirements and t...

Re: DUTCH SILVER GILT SNUFF BOX
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly and with so much information.
(admin edit - see Posting Requirements )
Would I use 1807 as the date or the French empire Paris & Dept: 1809-1819?
Thanks

DUTCH SILVER GILT SNUFF BOX
Hi, I recently purchased this silver gilt snuff box at auction. The auction house said it was 18th century. I have tried doing a little research and I think the maker is Theodorus Eekhoff (the initials within the third photo under the crown/coronet are TE and are very much like the ones on this site...

Re: Sampson Morgan - Pill Dispenser?
Hi, I have recently purchased this item and was wondering if anyone had any other ideas (other than a pill dispenser) for what it may it is? I have tried looking for another pill dispenser in this shape by Sampson Mordan and cannot find one. It is 5.7 cms tall and weighs 14 grams. Stamped on either ...

Hi Trev,
thanks for the information. I'm guessing that it may just be a pattern number or something.
Thanks

Lunt pipe tool
Hi, I have purchased this pipe tool. It has the makers mark on it which reads LUNT STERLING - 20. Does this identify the year it was made or is there another way of telling? http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/pQsAAOSwjtNZegWY/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/GqYAAOSwx0tZegWH/s-l1600.jpg Thanks J...

Re: ID help required
Hi, I have recently purchased a small cup with a few other items of English hallmarked silver. This one has me completely stumped. Could someone help me please? http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/6wQAAOSwp-RZcRLF/s-l1600.jpg The bigger of the 2 smaller marks seems to be an F with a pen in an inkwell or a...

6 Spoons - HELP!
Hi, I have purchased the 6 spoons shown. I am very confused as to the marks shown on them. They seem to be some sort of presentation spoons for, I'd guess Polo, as the handles have a hoof on each and there looks to be mallets and a ball where the bowl of the spoon starts. http://i.ebayimg.com/images...

Hi Tom, once again you have been a great help, I guess I thought that a cut off date was a cut off date. As soon as you mentioned anything about beaurocrats the penny dropped with me..lol. Having dealt with them in ths day and age I can imagine how slowly the changes must have been in days past. Onc...

Spanish hallmark help
Hi, with a lot of help from admin (many thanks admin) I think I may have solved part of my query. I have a set of 6 spoons. They are marked with a pentagram and 916. There is also a separate marking of T30. I think that they are Spanish but, from what I understand, the 916 mark finished in 1934 and ...

Help with Indian sub-continent mar
I wonder if someone could help me? I have 6 spoons. They all have the mark 916 followed by a star. The only other marking is T30. I am very confused as the 916 should be the mark for 22ct gold from the Indian sub-continent but the spoons are definitly silver coloured!! I would really appreciate any ...
