Re: Need expert opinion on this silver box
Hi, Ovchinnikov Trompe L'Oeil boxes do not circulate in flea markets. This is an obvious fake with faked marks. Moscow StGeorge mark speaks for itself. Fakes become more and more dangerous, but fortunately they are still rather easy to disclose. Regards https://abload.de/img/20220225_2310547bjp8.jp...

Re: Faberge
Most authentic Faberge that I am familiar with bears the 88 purity mark, but to that end I mostly see the higher end pieces and not the daily use silver. Also the 88 mixed with 56 gold like the perfume bottles (side note).

Re: Silver Salver
Why are the punches on the decorative face and not on the bottom? It's like sculpting a bust and then carving your signature onto its forehead.

Re: Sazikov - again...
I wish it was easier to insert pictures I could post the pictures from V's book and some authentic Sazikov hallmarks.
Maybe in the future. Also the fact the pictures are not imbedded makes a lot of previous discussions useless. :(

Re: Is this book worth looking at...
Hi Tedim - most of the better books are out of print since dekades and only sourced sometimes in antiquariats for a lot of money. Russian-Silversmiths-Hallmarks-1700-to-1917-by-Geoffrey-Watts is an unexpensive book for the beginner (mostly a rip off of Postnikova-Loseva) - better this than nothing....
