Definitely not American. The form of these is Northern or Central European.

Yes, I believe it is 50. I'll have to check in a few days when I can get my hands on the piece again, though.

Here are better images of the candlestick with its mysterious crowned lily mark.

Maker LS of 1805 tastevin
I haven't been able to find the maker of this tastevin hallmarked for 1798-1809, maker's mark L S in a diamond with a rectangular object in between. The inscription is G P Dumon 1805.
Thanks in advance!

Italian candlestick c. 1740s
This Italian candlestick is marked for Naples, with the maker's mark rubbed, c. 1730s-40s. I'm interested especially in the crowned fleur-de-lis mark, aka Bourbon lily, in the second image, which I've never seen on another piece. The Bourbon lily would seem to suggest something to do with the Bourbo...

Legrandmogol, I wonder if you ever found the title of that other book you mentioned. Blakstone, I wonder if you've had a chance to see this thread. My further research hasn't gotten me too far yet. Thanks!

By the way, Blakstone, I posted a spoon -- possibly early Swiss -- in the "Other countries" forum this afternoon that might be of interest to you.

Also, Legrandmogol, does the style tell you that it is Swiss? Have you seen 17th c Swiss spoons of similar form?

Re: Dutch spoon? 17th c or fake?
Peter, I can't thank you enough. It certainly appears that my spoon is all correct. This makes it the earliest piece in my collection. I'm glad to be learning about 17th-century spoons and about Dutch silver. I'm so grateful to you for sharing your expertise and your silver library. I've just posted...

Another early spoon?
Here's another spoon that comes from the same collection as the Groningen 1669 one that I posted last week. I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to age and origin. The hallmarks may be more difficult to interpret than with the Groningen one. My sense is that it is not a later reproduction/fantasy,...

Re: Mystery 18th c French (colonial?) bowl
Blakstone, thank you -- very helpful!
Do you know what the form is, exactly? A brandy bowl or something else?
Seeing the Christie's example makes me think it will be worthwhile for me to get the dents removed -- it would be an attractive piece.
I'm glad to learn something about 18th-c Swiss marks.

Re: JC? or IC? need some quick help...
That doesn’t match any of the known marks for Chalmers. Unfortunately, there were many 18th-century American Silversmiths with the initials IC, since the I could stand for James or John or Jacob or Joseph or Isaac or… you get the idea.
