Hopefully the opportunity will arise in the near future. Thanks and will sure post the result here in due course. Regards...

Re: Unknown hallmark
Hello everyone Sorry for the late reply. I am new to this forum and did not know that conversations had overflowed onto page two. Everyone I checked I only saw my own post at the end of page one. I only realised it this morning. I would love to polish the entire piece. The only reason I have been he...

Re: Unidentified marks on silver burner - 7 images
Dear Trev Thank you so much for the additional information. I am very sorry but can you please help yo shed light on the marks? Dying to know more about them. I assume the queen's head to be duty mark but then why are the other hallmarks missing. Isn't duty mark used primarily for sterling silver it...

Re: Unidentified marks on silver burner - 7 images
Dear Trev Many thanks for your help as usual. The burner must have been part of the items they sold. What year do think this burner was made? Late 19th century? Can you shed some light on the queen's head mark and the other initials around it? Greatly appreciate your opinion on them. Regards Alan

Unidentified marks on silver burner - 7 images
Hello I attach photos of a burner that I bought several years back. Hopefully someone can shed light and tell me if it is sterling silver and date of manufacture. The marks are found on all three components of this item. Thank you. Alan https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com...

Re: Unknown hallmark
Hello everyone Just a thought I would like to share. Observing the maker's marks I see that the 'lion', initials and crown are well aligned and close to each other while the two others on both sides are differently spaced. Could the ones at the periphery be later additions as their borders do not ha...

Re: Unknown hallmark
Dear Legrandmogol Thank you once again for your advice. I attach more photos of the cleaned area and they do look white and do not have any bluish tinge. You comments on these close up photos are most welcomed. Regards Alan https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg

Re: Unknown hallmark
Good morning everyone and thank you for you great input. They certainly give perspective to the item in question. Looks like there are lots of unanswered questions still. The one top on my mind is how it landed in Malaya (as Malaysia was then known). Having said that, I am rather inclined to lean to...

Re: Unknown hallmark
Dear Trev Thanks for the link. Great information and research. I am a novice at all this after having the opportunity to buy several solid silver tea sets two years ago. The interest has caught on and I do try to keep an eye out for interesting items. Coming back to the ladle, can you shed light on ...

Re: Unknown Silver Hallmark
Dear Jeff Many thanks for your reply once again. I bought this item as the family who had it said that the item has been with them for a long time - more than a century. Were pseudo hallmarks common back then? Sorry to ask this but my knowledge on this is really shallow. Thank you very much for your...

Re: Unknown hallmark
Dear Jeff Many thanks for your reply. This item was acquired from a noble family in Malaysia who traces its family roots back some 300 years. The entire ladle has patina that really reflects age. I will try to post the entire ladle later. There are no reputable silversmiths in the place where I live...

Unknown hallmark
Hello. I just bought an old ladle (about 1 foot in length) and it has some marks below the handle area. I cannot identify this and I hope someone can help me. I would like to know if this is sterling, when it was made and where. Thank you very much and I hope I get a reply soon. https://www.925-1000...
