Re: Maker's Mark / General thoughts 1753 Snuffer Tray
Thank you all very much for the help. I went through the London makers’ mark list, and found about 4 candidates (John Harvey, James Morrison, John Payne, Thomas Whipham). Admittedly I have not yet compared against the Grimwade book. However, looking online at Simon Jouet marks, it seems like he is t...

Maker's Mark / General thoughts 1753 Snuffer Tray
I understand this to be a snuffer tray with a London assay mark and date letter of 1753. On the reverse underside I see what appear to be a sterling mark as well as a maker’s mark, which unfortunately, appears slightly damaged. It looks like the maker’s mark had a shield-like outside design. Also cu...

My understanding is that the firm operated in both the late 19th and early 20th century in Austria-Hungary and subsequently Austria and Hungary. I think the mark indicates 1922-1937 Hungary, but I have seen other ma...

Re: 1754 London (?)
Sorry All - hit send button before finishing post - I believe this dish has a London assay mark and 1754 date letter - unfortunately a bit worn. If these aspects are correct, I would be curious to know if anyone has a thought on the maker - first letter appears to perhaps be a stylized E? Many thank...
