Re: Not sure about the maker´s mark and date
Your date, 1763, is definitely correct. And IL may very well be John Lambe as he obtained his freedom of the Goldsmiths Company in 1762. However we cannot be certain because any registration of his mark in this period will have been lost as the relevant register for largeworkers covering 1758 to 17...

Re: Need help with maker´s mark and date
Definitely William Turner - the stop at the end is a distinctive feature. Turner registered this mark in June 1754 and these forms of the crowned leopard's head and lion passant marks were only in use until 1755/56. So the date letter (the mark on the left) can only be "t" or "u"...

Re: Cannot identify the silver hallmarks
Thank you!Sasropakis wrote:To me the crowned leopard's head looks just like it should after years of polishing. The other hallmarks seem to be deeper so they are not that much affected by polishing. I have a salt where all hallmarks are worn by polishing so that only their outlines can be recognized.

Re: Cannot identify the silver hallmarks
I don't understand what you mean by "cover the city mark". The London crowned leopard's head mark looks perfectly normal in your picture, albeit with a bit of wear due to use and polishing. That said you have a spoon with a date letter which I am pretty sure is "d" for the assay...

Re: help with hallmarks needed
Both handle and bowl would have been done at the same time, possibly with another spoon to make a pair, but the other spoon may have had a completely different hallmark - they didn't bother too much about that sort of thing! Phil That probably explains why I inherited 4 similarly decorated berry sp...

Re: help with hallmarks needed
All good - except for the date, which is 1746. You may be aware that the decoration is not original to the spoon; it has suffered from the Victorian vogue of prettifying an old, plain spoon. I prefer to see it as it was intended, but personal tastes differ..... Phil Thanks for your help, Phil. An a...

help with hallmarks needed
I inherited a few old silver berry spoons and would like to find out more about the hallmarks. Could a member of this forum confirm whether my findings about the hallmarks are correct: Sterling silver, city - London, year - 1786, maker - Ebenezer Coker https://i.postimg.cc/RVZWZbg1/Berry-Spoon-EC-1....
