Rare figural teaspoon with faces of a couple + dogs, unmarked, 17th/18th cent.?
Hey all :-) I have purchased one very mysterious silver item from an antiques dealer in Copenhagen. It was the only piece among the spoons for sale which bore no marks and the overall atmosphere of the entire item was just so odd and beautiful that I had to pay the minuscule price to have it in my c...

Souvenir spoon mystery
Hi all, My question is regarding the marks I have found on a souvenir spoon I have purchased long time ago. Despite the numerous research I have made on the subject, I have no information regarding the country and date of creation. The "Q2" mark would tell about Swedish manufacture of 1798...

Early French silverplate (?) - Lozenge marks
Hi all, It has been a while since I have in my collection one antique cutlery I have no clue whether even it is made of silver or silverplate. It is a fork with a thread design and though its marks are pretty much worn off, I really hope that somebody might have some valuable information to tell abo...

Thank you. At least now I know that it was a broader period so far. :¬)

Early Swedish teaspoon. No date marks.
Hey all, I have this very fine silver teaspoon and I am curious about the date of its manufacture. Any info about the maker is welcome as well. Though so far I have figured out the city marks being that of Växjö, suggesting an 18th century manufacture, the maker "ND" did not lead me to fur...

Thank you for the valuable pieces of information, the mark indeed corresponds the lettering used by Jørgen Friis, and the style corresponds the era he has lived. Thank you very much.

When I bought it I was also quite convinced that it's Danish. No candidates so far. Therefore apparently it remains a mystery. :)

Circa 1760s (?) Rococo Sauce Spoon, Maker's Mark "JF"
Hey all! I have bought a really interesting silver spoon at a Copenhagen antiques dealer and I am looking for the identification of its maker and the date of its manufacture. The item bears a series of pricked initials with a single maker's mark, an engraving with a very basic Rococo design on the b...

Re: Unusual 1805 Empire sifter spoon has double hallmarks
Thanks, I actually bought the item in Denmark so your argument makes sense. But still I am rather curious, whether there are really no assay mark databases from the era that may give exact information regarding the hallmarks? Like I am quite certain that the double hallmark shows a letter i.e. that ...

Unusual 1805 Empire sifter spoon has double hallmarks
Hey all, :) Having gained enough confidence from my previous purchases and the identification of the spoons I have, thanks to the community, today I looked around in my favorite antiques mall again, as a result of which I have purchased this beautiful Empire style vermeil sifter spoon. It mentions t...

Re: What is it? 1700's spoon has some weird alterations.
Thank you. :) Apparently the spoon is one single solid piece, it might only be the reflection of the surroundings that caused the line between the handle and the bowl on the picture to appear. Anyways thank you for identifying the type of repair, although as you say it is pretty common, I am rather ...

What is it? 1700's spoon has some weird alterations.
Hi all, Since some time I have a very old 18th century Danish silver spoon in my collection. Just recently, as I was comparing its shape to other pieces, I have found quite a significant alteration on the concave part of the spoon's bowl. It looks like the traces of some old repair. There are lots o...

Very small hallmark identification
I took the microscope and captured these two images of the two hallmarks. Both of them are ~2mm in length. I can see that the second one is apparently a capital letter "A" in a rectangle but the one above is slightly worn. Can somebody please help to identify these hallmarks? Thanks. https...

Coffee spoon (~8g), hallmarks hardly visible
Hey all, I have bought a small silver spoon from Germany recently. I really would like to know where and how long time ago it was made. The entire object weighs 8 grams and is approx. 10 cm by length. At the first sight I thought it does not have any silver hallmarks, though by closer look I have ob...

Re: Please help to identify the maker of a Danish baroque spoon.
Wow thank you...!
So it means that the dotted initials are later additions?
I am thinking as the silversmith already passed away before the inscribed year.
I haven't thought that the spoon was so old!!! Thank you so much for the exciting pieces of information.
Have a nice day.!!!

Please help to identify the maker of a Danish baroque spoon.
Hello everybody. Just today I have purchased the first silver object into my art collection from a Copenhagen antiques dealer. :) It is a regular spoon with a very intricate baroque engraving in the bottom. In Denmark, such designs were particularly common in the 1700s. There are a couple of initial...
