Re: Unknown mark on German teespoon

Hello again,

Thank you for the answer. It was helpful indeed. So the spoons were made roughly between 1858/9 and 1886/8.

Kind regards, and thank you again,

Georg

Unknown mark on German teespoon

Hello everybody, I have got German teaspoons (see photo and another with marks). https://i.ibb.co/84dz3yT/P1010340.jpg https://i.ibb.co/nnQ297Q/P1010342.jpg From the left and right marks I gather that they were made by a Herman Julius Wilm in Berlin(?), and it is 750/1000 silver. Since there are no ...

Re: French sugar bowl (?); makers unknown

Hi again,

I took a photo of the third mark. The image is not very good because the mark is tiny, but I think it is a Belgium import mark used between 1831 and 1869.

Kind regards,

Re: French sugar bowl (?); makers unknown

Hi again, Thank both of you for the explanation. That was really helpful and clarified a lot. So this is the candy bowl and the handle was repaired but the repair is 200 years old. Good work indeed. I shall try to take a better photo of the third mark. If I succeed I shall post it here. Thank you ag...

French sugar bowl (?); makers unknown

Hi, Recently, I have got what I think is a French sugar bowl (see photo below together with the hallmarks). https://i.ibb.co/pPq2kn6/all.jpg https://i.ibb.co/bJD7XVZ/signs.jpg The marks indicate that the item is of French (Paris) origin and from the 1798-1809 period. Unfortunately, there is more tha...

Re: Location of the marks on French flatware

Hi again, It helps indeed. Thank you. The reason I was asking is that the makers marks on the handles of my set are completely illegible as opposite to the Minerva marks, which are well preserved. Now, I may safely assume that the set was made shortly after 1838. Thank you again. Best regards, Georg

Location of the marks on French flatware

Hi everybody, I have noticed that older French flatware (eg. spoons) have hallmarks (for example Minerva) on handles, whereas more modern have these marks on scoops. Am I right? If so when exactly did it happen? Was it a regulation or simply a fashion change? It helps with dating so I shall be very ...

Re: Belgium drageoir, maker not recognized

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply. It was fast, extensive and very helpful. I appreciate this.
Unfortunately, the Minerva head is so worn out that no assay office letter is visible.
Again, I am really grateful.

Best regards,

Georg

Belgium drageoir, maker not recognized

Hi, I have got something I believe is a drageoir (see photo). https://i.ibb.co/vqGJDZd/drageroir.jpg There are the following marks: https://i.ibb.co/nbR2hMy/marksx.jpg After some research I learnt that the first two marks say that item is of Belgium origin from the period 1831-1868; silver 833/1000 ...

Odiot oil vinegar set

Hi, I have got an oil vinegar set shown below. https://i.ibb.co/sbrLdK5/cruet-min-1.jpg There are marks as depicted in the photo. https://i.ibb.co/GprNMrN/marks2-min.jpg On the frame, there is only an Odiot mark (the first to the left) but not the Minerva mark. On the stoppers, there are both Minerv...

A ladle, possibly from Dresden

Hi, I have got a ladle, which is most likely German, and probably made in Dresden (see photo below). https://www.silver-collector.com/uploads/db2678/optimized/2X/e/e36a47731048c0d926ccd9544accb2fc447744f9_2_152x500.jpeg On the other side of the handle there are three marks, which I present below. ht...

Re: Belgium condiment set, maker unknown

Hi again, Thank you for your reply that clarified a lot. I made a crispier photo of the fourth mark but I will not present it here as it brings no new information: it turned out that the mark itself is blurred. What I see is two blurred signs, probably letters, over open scissors. Unfortunately, the...

Re: Portugal candlesticks, maker unknown

Hi,

Many thanks to both of you. As to the date: I gather it is between 1814 when the silversmith was registered and 1843 when the Lisbon mark with two dots was introduced. I really appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

G.
