Thank you Carling! That looks like a perfect ID...esp. since they say the mark was used for knife handles, which is what my items are. I hadn't thought about checking the Sheffield Assay office...thanks again for the great tip!!!

Sheffield 1923 maker ID please...marked " J.Y"

I've checked 3 hallmark sights, with no luck! This is for the silver work on a Geo. Wostenholm & Son stag handle carving set.

Thank you Waylander...that sounds like a good possibility! Do you have any more information on Josiah Young, or a reference/resource I could look into? So far, I haven't found anything on the name, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right places??? Thank you again, and I would certainly welcome sugg...

identify sheffield maker's mark "JY"

I have a G. Wostenholm & Son carving set with the the Sheffield sterling marks for 1923 and a maker's mark of "JY", but have been unable to locate a name for "JY". ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Pat, I also have a piece with this mark, and I just so happened to be researching it these past couple of days...perfect timing for this thread! I am wondering what resource you used to ID the mark? I haven't seen it anywhere under either Forbes or Meriden...all I have seen are the marks with ...
