Hi there Shayes, These look like berry spoons, for desserts and such.. Very nice berry spoons. If they were slotted, they might be for ice, or peas. At the time your servers were made, ice cream servers were made to cut, not to scoop, and as such, they resembled fish servers with completely flat bla...

Silver plates with unusual marks,

Hi there, Once more I have 2 plates with marks I have not been able to find. I thought that the marks were Paris, and then again from Portugal, but I am not satisfied with either one. I do believe that the plates are c. 1850 - 1890, and pretty sure that they are from Europe. The 3 marks on the back ...

18th c Ladle stamped 3 times with unknown makers mark

Hi all, Purchased this ladle from a lady because I was bored.. Not the best reason to go out buying, but it happens!. Must learn to control my impulses... This is a late 18th c. ladle, that has been broken (see photo) and repaired. It will go into my collection (accumulation) of unsaleable ladles (5...

American Coin Tongs c. 1800 unusual makers mark "TH+&q

Hi there, I just obtained several pair of sugar tongs, both English and American, and found this pair to be intriguing. I have so far been unable to find the maker in any of my American marks books, or online research, so I am asking the silver community for some help. The tongs are marked on the in...

Coffe pot with ball feet.. Danish?

Hi all, I have had this coffee pot (?) sitting in my bookcase for two months now, waiting for me to have a sudden burst of inspiration as to its origin and age. It is made of sheet silver, has 4 ball feet, and is well made (also wooden handle). It is tall, 12.5" and has good weight. The mark is...

Hi there Pat, Thanks for the information. The '3 stars in a lobe' and the '950 mark, match exectly, and one of the makers letters is an'F'. So Belgium may be the origin of these 2 pieces. Let me post a little better photo of the makers mark. Probably on Wednesday. Thanks again, Marc

Silver made in Germany or silverplated?

Hi all, I have had this large (8.5" long) and heavy (219 grams / pair) fork and spoon hanging around the kitchen for several years and have wondered, because they are so heavy, if they were silver or silver plated. I have handled British and European spoons and forks that have weighed 90 gms be...

Hi again Buff,

Dip takes all the tarnish off silver, including the shading that was ment to remain, and spray smells like sulfer (rotten eggs).

Hi there Buff, The first thing to remember is that all silver polishes are POISONOUS. If you are gong to polish by hand, wear gloves or rub hand cream onto your hands. When polishing an item, I first determine how much polishing it needs. If the piece you are plannng to clean is just starting to tur...
