Need help to id maker of this dish

Post by niceguy1 »

Hello

Who is the maker of this nice dish? It measures 9 cm wide.

I’m sorry about the quality of the hallmarks but they are tiny & were not struck well to begin with.

THANK YOU

Hi Niceguy,

I can't help with the maker, but the marks are Polish, from the Warsaw Assay Office, indicating 800/1000 standard. They were in use after 1963.

Hi,

I'm really not sure why re-marking was necessary at this time, sometimes it's because the law required that when precious metal items came back on to the market they had to re-marked (an excellent way to raise revenue), or perhaps when a country had a chequered history of being governed by others, then an attempt to gain some sort of uniformity? I'm really not sure.

It would be good if someone knowledgeable can provide an answer.
