I have a what I believe to be a snuff box with 4 hallmarks. Could someone please help me to identify them I have looked through all the hallmarks that I have but I dont even think it could be French anymore poss egyptian? without clue to be honest. Much appreciated.
Most defininitely French, with the “Michelangelo” first standard (.950) fineness mark used in Paris 1819-1838, and the “Greek mask” medium-sized guarantee mark of the same period. The maker “CAF” is Charles-Antoine Fasquelle, a Parisian specialist snuffbox maker and bijoutier working from 1797 to at least 1822. The other mark — the “head of a Greek woman” — is an unofficial mark used by the Paris Association of Gold & Silversmiths.
Hope this helps!
