Fiddle spoon by D.G. Leonard

Post by Granna »

I have a fiddle style serving spoon with the name D.G. Leonard stamped on the back. There is also an extremely tiny hallmark: a five pointed star, a lion passant, an upper case D. Does anyone have any info on this maker or the hallmark? The spoon is very lightweight, flexible, and has a cracked bowl.

That's D. Gillis Leonard, Newburgh, New York (c.1841-1847).
Entered into a partnership with Nelson Haight in 1847 (Haight & Leonard).

Regards,
Pat.
