Help Identifying <M> American or Canadian Hallmark Nautical

This is a nautical style brooch I bought and tried to get appraised. They had no idea what the makers mark was but said it was definitely American or Canadian in origin and for a navy or merchant marine. If anyone has any information on these hallmarks it would be appreciated very much. I like to know the provenance of pieces that catch my eye. Thank you!
