Establishment of the business was claimed as 1735. By 1845 at least, the business was in the hands of Joseph Toulmin and John Gale.

Noted as exhibitors at the International Exhibition of 1862.

Following insolvency in 1876 the business was acquired by George William Betjemann, and later restyled to Betjemann & Gale.

GEORGE GRANT MACDONALD

An example of the work and mark of George Grant Macdonald, a large paper knife, 11" (28.5cm) in length and weighing 150 grams, assayed at London in 1973:

Grant Macdonald was born at London in 1947 and after receiving his training at the Central School and Sir John Cass College, established his business in 1969. In 1976 he took over Gerald Benney's Bear Lane workshops following Benney's relocation to Berkshire. His workshops produce a wide range of pieces and they specialize in heraldic items for the Livery Companies and for the City of London.

He was elected a member of the Court of Assistants of the Goldsmith's Company in 2000 and is a former Prime Warden of the Goldsmith’s Company

Harry Soane, at some point in his career, appears to have taken over the business of Thomas Moring (see above post).

Harry Soane entered his mark 'HS' contained within two conjoined circles, with the London Assay Office on the 12th May 1880.

The mark was registered with the London Assay Office in 1958; their registration expired in 2006.

Ben J. Dix of London Ltd. (Benjamin Josiah Dix) acquired the rights to the name of the then defunct 'Harrison Brothers & Howson' of Sheffield in 1978.

Thomas Causer entered his mark 'T [star] C' contained within an oval, with the London Assay Office on the 14th June 1890. He also entered a similar mark with the Chester and Birmingham assay offices.

Not much appears to be known about Kellerman, he registered with the LAO on the 15th April 1909 and gave his address as 15, Holborn Viaduct, London. He informed the assay office of a change of address to 158, Oxford Street, London, on the 1st December 1909.

His mark has been noted on imported wares possibly of Austrian origin.

William Henry Warmington, who was known as Harry Warmington, served his apprenticeship under George Hart of the Guild of Handicraft. Along with George Hart he revived the Campden School of Arts & Crafts in 1946.

Established c.1878 by John Thomas. He was later joined in business by his son, Cecil Walter Thomas.

John Thomas retired in 1928 and died on the 4th April 1938, aged 80 years of age. He is buried at Old Malden Church Yard, Surrey.

Thomas & Son entered their mark 'T & S' contained within an oblong punch, with the London Assay Office on the 10th May 1913.

Established in the late 1870's by William Richard Corke and his brother as Corke Brothers. Became Corke Brothers & Co. with Arthur George Apthorp and Ernest Harry Apthorp (1899-c.1920), Corke & Apthorp, (c. 1920-1938). In 1938 the firm was amalgamated with Puddefoot, Bowers and Simonett Ltd.
