Silver & enamel box need help to id

Post by niceguy1 »

HELLO ALL

Who is the maker of this silver & enamel box? It’s hallmarked 935 & a symbol which is a bit hard to capture but perhaps someone will recognize the type of work.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi,

German; crescent moon and crown, the maker or importer's mark is not showing.

Thanks Oel.

Now I see it’s listed under the unidentified German section & usually has a makers mark B C.

Hi Niceguy,

It would be incorrect to assume this is the work of the unidentified 'BC' only on the strength of a similar crescent and crown mark. The system of marking precious metals in Germany was one of self regulation with the individual silversmiths acquiring or making their own version of the stamp, and thus there are likely to be perhaps thousands of slight variations to this mark.
